Role Overview

This position supports the management of a pharmacy dispensary, including overseeing daily operations, guiding staff, and ensuring safe and accurate dispensing of medication. The role also focuses on patient care, compliance, stock control, and delivering quality service in a retail pharmacy environment.


Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) or equivalent
  • Registered with SAPC (South African Pharmacy Council)
  • 2–5 years experience in pharmacy practice
  • Familiar with Unisolv system
  • Experience leading or supervising staff
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)

Added Advantage

  • Previous exposure to dispensary or pharmacy management roles

Key Duties

Pharmacy Compliance

  • Follow SAPC regulations and professional pharmacy standards
  • Ensure all staff operate within legal and ethical pharmacy scope
  • Maintain updated registration and compliance requirements
  • Protect patient information in line with POPIA regulations

Dispensing and Patient Care

  • Verify prescriptions and patient details before dispensing
  • Ensure correct preparation, labelling, and checking of medicine
  • Educate patients on proper medication use
  • Monitor prescriptions for possible misuse or fraud
  • Assist with chronic and specialised medication processes

Stock and Inventory Control

  • Monitor and manage pharmacy stock levels
  • Handle expired or near-expiry products correctly
  • Support ordering processes to maintain optimal supply levels
  • Track stock movement and reduce losses or shrinkage

Customer Service

  • Assist customers at the dispensary and self-medication areas
  • Provide clear and accurate information about medicines and costs
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and service standards
  • Resolve queries in a professional manner

Team and Operational Support

  • Supervise pharmacy staff and daily workflow
  • Ensure proper staff scheduling and coverage
  • Support training and performance management
  • Promote teamwork and a positive work environment
  • Ensure housekeeping and safety standards are maintained
