Job Purpose

The SHE Chief Safety Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and sustaining safety inspections, assessments, and compliance initiatives to maintain a safe and healthy mining environment.

The successful candidate will also execute the legal responsibilities of a Chief Safety Officer as outlined in the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance Management

• Implement SHE strategies and continuous safety improvement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with mining safety laws and operational standards
• Maintain safety licenses and operational compliance requirements
• Coordinate safety audits, inspections, and assessments

Incident Investigation & Risk Management

• Conduct accident and incident investigations
• Perform root cause analyses and implement corrective actions
• Analyse injury trends and propose preventative measures
• Manage SHE risk and compliance reporting

Stakeholder & Operational Support

• Advise management on safety-related matters
• Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Prepare and present SHE reports to management and regulatory authorities
• Support operational teams in achieving safety objectives

Team Development & Leadership

• Manage and develop team performance
• Support skills development and knowledge sharing
• Encourage collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• University Bachelor’s Degree
  or
• BTech / Engineering-related Bachelor’s qualification

Experience Required

• Minimum 6 years relevant SHE or mining safety experience
