Job Purpose
The SHE Chief Safety Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and sustaining safety inspections, assessments, and compliance initiatives to maintain a safe and healthy mining environment.
The successful candidate will also execute the legal responsibilities of a Chief Safety Officer as outlined in the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA).
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance Management
- Implement SHE strategies and continuous safety improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with mining safety laws and operational standards
- Maintain safety licenses and operational compliance requirements
- Coordinate safety audits, inspections, and assessments
Incident Investigation & Risk Management
- Conduct accident and incident investigations
- Perform root cause analyses and implement corrective actions
- Analyse injury trends and propose preventative measures
- Manage SHE risk and compliance reporting
Stakeholder & Operational Support
- Advise management on safety-related matters
- Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Prepare and present SHE reports to management and regulatory authorities
- Support operational teams in achieving safety objectives
Team Development & Leadership
- Manage and develop team performance
- Support skills development and knowledge sharing
- Encourage collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- University Bachelor’s Degree
or - BTech / Engineering-related Bachelor’s qualification
Experience Required
- Minimum 6 years relevant SHE or mining safety experience
