About the Role

As Chief Director, you will head a critical portfolio overseeing four key directorates:

  1. Education Human Resource Planning, Provisioning, and Monitoring.
  2. Education Performance Management and Development.
  3. Whole School Evaluation.
  4. Education Labour Relations Management and Conditions of Service.

You will lead a team working in close collaboration with other state departments and provincial education offices to ensure the effective utilization of educators across the country.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategy & Recruitment: Develop and implement teacher recruitment strategies and human resource management information systems.
  • System Reform: Revamp the post-allocation system to reduce class sizes and improve school efficiency.
  • Performance Management: Improve the effectiveness of teacher performance systems and integrated quality management evaluations.
  • Labour Relations: Ensure effective and efficient labour relations and manage conditions of service for the sector.
  • Reporting: Analyze and report on human resource requirements and capacity across the entire education sector.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 7) in Education, Social Science, or an equivalent SAQA-recognized qualification. (Postgraduate degree is an added advantage).
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience at a Senior Managerial level.
  • Expertise: Extensive knowledge in Education Planning, Human Resources, or Labour Relations within the education sector.
  • Technical Skills: Deep understanding of provincial education processes, policy funding, and implementation.
  • Mandatory: A Certificate for the SMS pre-entry programme (Nyukela) is required before appointment.
