The MSI Training Skills 2026 Learning Programme is a 12-month initiative designed to turn beginners into technically skilled welders and successful entrepreneurs. This programme is a partnership between the Mpumalanga Stainless Initiative (MSI), Nkangala TVET College, and the Mpumalanga Department of Economic Development & Tourism (DEDT).
Why Welding?
Welding is a scarce and highly sought-after skill in South Africa, especially coded welding. Completing this programme opens doors to:

Programme Overview
The 12-month programme combines technical training, business support, and compliance guidance. Participants also receive a monthly stipend.
1. Accredited Technical Training (First 6 Months)
Learners develop intensive technical skills, including:
- Coded welding processes
- Steel cutting, bending, and joining
- Industrial safety standards
- Fabrication techniques
- Workshop operations and tool handling
2. Business Incubation & Entrepreneurship
Learn how to turn your trade skills into income-generating ventures:
- Entrepreneurial training
- One-on-one mentorship
- Assistance with market access
3. Company Registration & Compliance
Full support to establish a legal and compliant business, including:
- CIPC registration
- Tax compliance with SARS
- COIDA registration
- Central Supplier Database (CSD) registration
4. Access to Industrial Facilities
Operate professionally from day one with:
- Shared industrial workspaces
- Fabrication tools
- Professional welding equipment
Who Should Apply?
Applicants must:
- Have completed Grade 9 with Mathematics and Science
- Be 15–35 years old
- Be a South African citizen
- Reside in Mpumalanga
- Be willing to commit to the full 12-month programme
Added Advantage (Not Compulsory): Applicants with an N2 Certificate in Plater/Structural Steel Drawing, NCV Level 3 (all subjects passed), or Technical Matric with Mathematics and Science may receive preference.
Limited Intake
Only 25 applicants will be selected due to limited resources. Preference may be given to youth, women, and township-based entrepreneurs.
