Role Overview

Sandvik is seeking a diligent and results-oriented Technical Buyer to join the Regional Supply Chain team. The role is responsible for end-to-end procurement activities, supplier coordination, purchase order management, and ensuring on-time delivery to support operational and production needs.

This position is based in Kempton Park (Spartan offices).


Purpose of the Role

To procure goods and services efficiently by creating and managing purchase orders, maintaining supplier relationships, tracking deliveries, and ensuring data integrity within the ERP system.


Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end procurement responsibility from purchase order placement to delivery
  • Create, release, and track Purchase Orders through supplier acknowledgement to delivery
  • Expedite urgent orders and resolve delivery or supply discrepancies
  • Maintain and manage supplier relationships within assigned portfolio
  • Ensure on-time delivery and lead-time accuracy targets are met
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders including Workshops, Warehouse, Inventory, Freight, Sales, Engineering, Aftermarket, and SHEQ teams
  • Capture and manage Purchase Orders in Syspro ERP system
  • Issue job-related purchase orders based on engineering drawings and production schedules
  • Issue stock buy-out purchase orders aligned with warehouse and sales requirements
  • Weekly expediting of orders to avoid late deliveries
  • Capture import and export orders and provide delivery status updates
  • Support export shipment estimates and purchasing activities
  • Resolve supply issues timeously
  • Allocate stock items to production jobs
  • Assist with stock reorder levels and purchasing
  • Provide cost estimates for sales and production budget analysis
  • Drive improvements in item availability and supplier lead times
  • Attend operational meetings and report on procurement activities
  • Support contract compliance, cost proposals, and procurement administration
  • Perform additional tasks to support Procurement team objectives

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (essential)
  • Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing, technical, or engineering environment
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes and systems
  • Advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel)
  • Experience with ERP systems (Syspro advantageous)
  • Good command of written and spoken Business English
  • Ability to multitask and manage diverse responsibilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s licence
