About the Role
The Credit Evaluation Specialist is responsible for assessing credit applications in line with Capital Connect’s credit policy, affordability standards, and risk appetite. Because credit evaluation is the starting point of every loan, this role is a direct driver of revenue, portfolio quality, and long-term sustainability. You will ensure responsible lending practices are upheld while maintaining efficient turnaround times to support business growth.
What You’ll Do
- Assess and evaluate incoming credit applications in line with credit policy and risk appetite.
- Conduct affordability and risk assessments using supporting documentation like bank statements and financial data.
- Verify the completeness and accuracy of application documentation, ensuring compliance and audit-ready records.
- Liaise with Sales teams to handle queries, follow up on missing information, and communicate credit decisions.
- Identify risk trends and contribute to the continuous improvement, automation, and digitization of credit evaluation processes.
Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) – Essential
- Tertiary qualification in Finance, Business, Risk, or a related field – Advantageous
- 2–4 years of experience in credit evaluation, underwriting, or credit risk analysis.
- Proven experience analyzing bank statements and performing affordability assessments.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong analytical, numerical, and structured thinking abilities.
- High attention to detail with sound judgement and decision-making capability.
- Ability to manage high application volumes and work independently under pressure.
- Proficiency with credit evaluation systems or loan management platforms.
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, including FICA, POPIA, and responsible lending principles.
