Job Summary

The Executive: Governance, Risk & Compliance will lead the First Line Governance & Control team, ensuring effective management of the operational risk profile in alignment with the Operational Risk Framework. The role drives governance excellence, risk management, compliance oversight, and strategic stakeholder engagement across the Everyday Banking and product environments.


Key Responsibilities

1. Governance and Control

  • Define and monitor Non-Financial Risk Appetite for the business area.
  • Proactively identify issues and emerging risks.
  • Develop and implement combined assurance plans.
  • Ensure control approaches are aligned to organisational priorities.

2. First Line of Defence Governance Excellence

  • Establish scalable, repeatable, and efficient risk management processes.
  • Implement and maintain governance structures within Everyday Banking.
  • Oversee policy and standard rollout and compliance adherence.
  • Lead engagement across multiple functional stakeholders including Audit, Compliance, and Governance teams.
  • Oversee anti-money laundering (AML) implementation and reporting across Cards businesses.
  • Align operational efficiency with acceptable risk appetite.
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement through training and communication.

3. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the primary contact for governance and control engagements.
  • Communicate standards, requirements, and initiatives to relevant stakeholders.
  • Drive and oversee control-related strategies and action plans.
  • Engage with senior executives and business leadership.

4. Reporting

  • Produce Operational Summary reports, business-level strategic updates, and group operational risk reporting (CPA, MCA, RCAs, KRIs).
  • Implement innovative tracking and reporting mechanisms.
  • Provide progress updates on operational excellence and remediation initiatives.

5. People Management

  • Recruit, lead, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Drive a high-performance culture through coaching, performance management, and development planning.
  • Maintain succession plans for key roles.
  • Provide strategic direction aligned to group goals.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies (Required)
