The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is a South African government agency established under the National Railway Safety Regulator Act (Act 16 of 2002). The RSR oversees and enforces safety standards across all railway operators in South Africa, including those from neighboring countries operating within the country. Its main priority is to ensure the safety of passengers, communities, and all stakeholders. The RSR is headquartered in Bruma, Johannesburg, with an office in Cape Town CBD.
The RSR is offering bursaries for undergraduate studies in various fields for the 2026 academic year.

Bursaries are available for students pursuing full-time undergraduate studies in the following disciplines:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Information Technology
- Human Resources Management
- Media and Communication
- Law
- Financial Management
- Internal Audit
- Risk Management
- Supply Chain Management
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- South African citizen
- Aged 15–35 years
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Accepted or registered to study full-time at a recognised South African tertiary institution (TVET College, University of Technology, Private or Public University)
- Pursuing an undergraduate qualification in one of the fields listed above
- For first-year applicants: minimum average of 65% in Grade 11 final results or Matric mid-term results
- Must not be receiving any other bursary or financial sponsorship
- Available for an interview if shortlisted and willing to sign a Bursary Agreement
Required Documents
Submit the following certified copies with your application:
- ID document
- Grade 11 final results and/or Matric mid-term results (if currently in school)
- Matric certificate (if completed)
- Full academic record, including most recent transcripts (if currently studying)
- Proof of tertiary registration/admission
- Quotation of tuition fees for the academic year
- Motivational letter supporting your application
