Overview
Sandvik Rock Processing is seeking an ambitious and innovative Development Engineer to join its Engineering Department. The role focuses on developing new products, improving existing designs, and translating research into practical, market-ready engineering solutions within the mining and construction industries.
Purpose of the Role
- Discover and develop new product ideas
- Improve and extend existing products
- Translate research into functional, marketable solutions
- Support revenue growth and market share expansion
Key Responsibilities
Product Development & Design
- Evaluate and develop new product concepts
- Design, validate, and launch new products
- Develop product specifications, testing plans, and validation processes
- Perform engineering calculations and structural integrity analyses
- Conduct FEA, dynamic simulations, and test measurements
- Ensure drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) are accurate
Engineering & Technical Support
- Use CAD/CAE tools (Siemens NX, Teamcenter) for 3D modelling and drawings
- Support manufacturing with design-for-manufacture best practices
- Provide advanced technical support and pre-sales input
- Conduct on-site customer visits and measurements when required
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work with manufacturing teams, designers, and product specialists
- Develop in-house technical standards and training materials
- Improve engineering processes and product optimisation
- Share R&D resources across teams when required
Minimum Qualifications
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering (Required)
- MEng in Mechanical Engineering (Advantageous)
Experience & Technical Skills
- 3–5 years’ advanced 3D CAD modelling and drafting experience
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication and welding specifications
- Strong FEA and structural analysis experience
- Test and measurement (field or lab) experience
- Preferred R&D experience
- Proficient in Siemens NX and Teamcenter
- Python or similar programming knowledge
- Multibody Dynamics simulation (advantageous)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
