Programme Overview

Transnet is offering a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme aimed at students and recent graduates seeking practical workplace experience. The programme provides hands-on exposure, mentorship, and industry-specific training to enhance employability and bridge the gap between academic learning and the workplace.

Note: Preference will be given to applicants residing within the King Cetshwayo District.


Key Responsibilities

Task Execution

  • Assist with departmental projects and work-stream activities
  • Perform routine operational tasks under supervision
  • Support administrative duties, including documentation and reporting

Learning & Development

  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programmes
  • Shadow experienced professionals for practical exposure
  • Engage in problem-solving and skills development activities

Communication & Collaboration

  • Liaise with internal teams, customers, and suppliers
  • Provide updates on assigned tasks and project progress
  • Act as a point of contact for queries and assistance

Research & Analysis

  • Conduct data collection, research, and basic analysis
  • Prepare reports and presentations using MS Office tools
  • Support process improvement initiatives

Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct

Qualifications & Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Matric certificate
  • Be an S4–S5 Technical student OR have completed all theoretical coursework
  • Be in one of the following disciplines:
    • Electronics
    • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Civil Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Physical Metallurgy
    • Chemical Engineering
  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be aged 18–35 years
  • Have no bursary obligation with another company
  • Submit a confirmation letter from the institution
  • Provide certified copies of:
    • Matric certificate
    • Academic record
    • South African ID
